EC Speaks Out on Bobi Wine Arrest

Hours after the controversial detention of Kyadondo East MP Aspirant and celebrated musician Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, the Electoral Commission has come out to clarify on the issue.

Bobi Wine was arrested in the morning of Tuesday June 27th as he made his way to his final rally in Kasangati.

He was detained at Kasangati Police before being transferred to Kiira Police station.

His arrest sparked demonstrations from his supporters who were unhappy with the incident.

They claimed that government was seeking to disorganise the singer whose campaign trail has been successful.

But According to EC spokesperson Jotham Taremwa, Bobi wine was campaigning at the wrong venue.

“According to the harmonized campaign program with EC, Bobi wine was not supposed to be where he was in Kasangati. He is supposed to campaign in Gayaza. Therefore, he was campaigning at a wrong venue,” said Taremwa.

“We have spoken to candidate and he appreciated our advice. He is going to proceed to his campaign venue,” he added.

By publication time, the singer had been released and was making way to the campaign venue amid cheers from on looking supporters.
