Kamwenge Mayor Byamukama Released on Police Bond

Kamwenge Mayor Godfrey Byamukama has Saturday afternoon (August 9th, 2017) been released on Police Bond.

Byamukama was arrested in April this year in connection with the murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

He was released from Nalufeenya Detention Centre in Jinja on Saturday Afternoon.

According to Police Spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye, although he has been released on Bond, Byamukama is still investigated over the late Kaweesi’s murder.

“Releasing him doesn’t mean he is free. Police is still investigating him,” Kasingye said.

This website understands that the mayor will be reporting to Kiira Road Police every once a week.

It will be remembered that Byamukama was brutally tortured during his arrest in April.

He was admitted at Nakasero Hospital for a couple of weeks before being moved to Nalufenya Detention Centre.

Following pressure from the public, Police arrested four of its officers; ASP Patrick Muramira, ASP Fred Tumuhairwe; Habib Roma (driver) and Ben Odeke who arrested Byamukama.

The officers were charged with torture.
