Winnie Kiiza Hands Over as Leader of Opposition in Parliament

Kasese Woman Member of Parliament Winnie Kizza has Tuesday handed over the office of the Leader of Opposition in Parliament to her successor, Betty Aol Ochan.

Kizza who has held the office since 2016 was replaced earlier this month in a reshuffle by Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president, Patrick Oboi Amuriat.

There was notable collision and disagreement in the opposition following the reshuffle with Kizza refusing to leave office and the Demeocratic Party accusing FDC of not consulting them.

This visibly created divisions in the country’s main opposition party with two factions created i.e. the Muntu faction and the Besigye-Amuriat faction.

This division later became visible on Monday when former FDC party president Mugisha Muntu decided to campaign for an independent candidate ignoring the FDC candidate in the Arua bye elections.

But during the handover, Awol promised to keep the party united and take over from where Winnie Kiiza stopped.
