“Boda boda” has been adopted as an English terminology and included in the ninth edition of the Oxford dictionary.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines boda boda as “a type of motorcycle or a bicycle with a space for a passenger or for carrying goods, often used as a taxi”.
“Boda boda” is believed to have been derived from “border border” because these motorcycles were initially used to ferry people and smuggle goods across borders.
One of such borders was the Busia border, shared by Kenya and Uganda – where the term is largely used.
