The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has won the Upper Madi County By-election in yet another victory in a string of parliamentary by-elections.
NRM’s Isaac Joakino Etuka polled 10,075 ahead of independent candidate Martin Andi Drito’s 1223 and opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate John Drazu Arumadri
The Upper Madi seat fell vacant after Court of Appeal in April nullified the election of Etuka on grounds that he had been irregularly nominated by the Electoral Commission.
Court had found out that Etuka’s nomination as the NRM flag bearer had been cancelled on the eve of the February 18, 2016 general polls as his opponent Drito obtained a court order to the same effect.
Other by-elections recently won by NRM include: Joseph Andrew Koluo’s win in Toroma County (Katakwi) and Moses Walyomu’s win in Kagoma County.
