Prof Venansius Baryamureeba, one the three candidates in the race for Makerere University vice chancellor race, has described as a sham the process through which Prof Barnabas Nawangwe emerged winner.
On Thursday, University council picked deputy vice chancellor for administration and architecture professor Nawangwe as their best candidate.
Baryamureeba came second while College of Humanities and Social Sciences (Chuss) principal Prof Edward Kirumira trailed.
The names of both Baryamureeba and Nawangwe have been forwarded to chancellor Prof Ezra Suruma who will endorse one.
But Baryamureeba has issued a statement on his official Facebook page protesting the results by the search committee calling the process a sham.
He pins MP Thomas Tayebwa of Ruhinda North County, also a member of council, for reportedly fighting him.
Here is Baryamureeba’s statement.
As One Of The Candidates Who Participated In The Search Process For The Vice Chancellor Of Makerere University, I Have Overwhelming Evidence To Show That Search Committee Report That Was Used As A Basis For The Senate And Council Decisions To Have Prof. Barnabas Nawnagwe As Vice Chancellor Elect Is A Total SHAM. I Therefore Shall Never Recognise Prof. Nawangwe As Vice Chancellor Elect And Later As Vice Chancellor Of Makerere University.
The Visitation Committee To Makerere University Should Interest Itself In This Matter And So Should Government For The Good Of Makerere University.
The Main Architect Of This Scam Outside The Search Committee Has Been Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, A Member Of Council With Vested Personal Interests In Makerere University Who Has Been Misusing The Name Of The First Lady And Minister Of Education And Sports To Misinform Members Of The Search Committee, Council And Other Stakeholders Of Makerere University. Details And Evidence To Follow.
