A cloud of grief is hovering over UMCAT School of Journalism following the sudden death of their student Christine Nalumansi on Thursday evening.
Nalumansi was knocked dead by a speeding car inside school premises at the institution’s Mbale coordinating centre where a cultural gala was ongoing.
According to UMCAT Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Obwot, at around 9:25pm, the speeding car Reg. No. UAU 623N lost Control and knocked the school Gate entering the premises before injuring two students.
The two, Nalumansi and Ronald Katumba, were then rushed to Mt. Elgon Hospital where the former passed on at around 11:15pm.
Nalumasi was pursuing a Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication while Katumba a first year student of Journalism and Mass Communication.
According to Obwot, “Katumba is currently admitted to Mt Elgon Hospital in Mbale under stable but delicate Condition and recovering steadily according to medical report.”
He revealed that Preliminary Investigations indicate that the Driver was under the influence of alcohol although further investigations into the matter are still going on.
