Prosecutors Suspend Strike after Meeting with Otafiire

A week after they declared a strike demanding salary increment, state prosecutors have today suspended a sit-down strike.

The suspension followed a meeting between prosecutors and Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister Kahinda Otafiire at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

The suspension will last three months and was premised on the argument that government needed time to handle the issue.

The lowest ranking state prosecutor earns a monthly gross salary of about Shs 645,000 while the highest earns a gross pay amounting to about Shs 2.1m.

Otafiire assured the prosecutors that government would give its position within the three months.

The prosecutors have agreed to resume work immediately.

Those working in Kampala agreed to start work Monday afternoon while those in the countryside will resume Tuesday.
