Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura has suspended four senior police officers over their alleged involvement in an illegal eviction of traders working in a government owned structure in Jinja Town.
The IGP’s actions were triggered by the Catherine Bamugemereire headed Commission of Inquiry into Land issues before which he was appearing on Tuesday.
Kayihura was grilled by the commission over the force’s alleged collusion with businessman Simpson Birungi of Birus Properties Limited to grab land before four officers were named in the same.
The said officers include ACP Julius Twinomujuni from the Directorate of Human Rights and Legal Services, SSP Edgar Nyambogo, the Regional Police Commander of Kidepo, SSP Felix Mugizi, the DPC of Kumi and SSP Apollo Kateeba the RPC Rwenzori.
The Commission would later ask Kayihura to probe the officers within two weeks although he said immediate action was needed.
“For me the action is immediate. I would like to work with the commission to take action as I get more evidence… I would like to work with the commission to take action as I get more evidence.”
The four suspended officers are now under investigation over the same.
