Kasirye Gwanga Defends Self After Setting Tractor Ablaze in Land Dispute

Veteran UPDF officer and senior presidential advisor Brig. Kasirye Gwanga has come out and defended himself after setting contractor’s tractor ablaze over alleged land grabbing in Lubowa.

Kasirye on Saturday rushed to Lubowa after a tip off that some unknown persons were clearing his land.

Upon arrival, the army officer is said to have fired bullets in the air before setting the tractor ablaze.

While speaking to a local TV station, Kasirye revealed that his actions were in an attempt to rescue the land.

“The land belongs to my son who is in the US. I cannot let anyone grab it just like that,” Kasirye Gwanga said.

“Many people are judging me but I don’t make mistakes. What was the tractor doing on my land? I cannot tolerate that,” he added.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima while speaking in a weekly briefing on Monday noted no one has recorded statements pinning Kasirye Gwanga except for the owner of the tractor.

“Investigations are going on and in Uganda no one is above the law, even Brig. Kasirye Gwanga,” Kayima said.
