Hours after the nullification of his reelection, Uhuru Kenyatta has spoken out, attacking the Supreme Court for overturning the will of the people.
Earlier, the Supreme Court nullified Uhuru’s reelection and ordered fresh polls, giving his opponent another ray of hope for the country’s top seat.
“Let me say for the third instance that is important as Kenyans to respect the rule of the law,” Kenyatta, Jubilee Party’s candidate in the August 08 polls, said.
“I respect the ruling but I disagree with it.”
He then scoffed at the judges: “Six people have decided that they will go against the will of the people.”
But Kenyatta, son to Kenya’s founding president Jomo Kenyatta, called for unity and peace, calling the opposition “our brothers”.
“We are not at war with our brothers and sisters in the opposition because we are all Kenyans,” he said.
“I urge Kenyans to maintain peace; Wherever you are, touch you neighbour’s hand and say ‘peace’.”
