A prime suspect in the murder of a woman in Nyanama, along Entebbe road, has been arrested by the police.
Charles Kato was arrested in Nakaseke district following the recovery of the body of her murdered ex-wife Maria Nabirawa Monday morning.
The body of the murdered woman, in her 20s, was discovered by employees of a private car washing bay in Nyanama.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman Emilian Kayima on Tuesday confirmed Kato’s arrest.
Kato is a Kampala-based mechanic but was arrested from Ssakkabusolo village, Kasangobe sub-county, in Nakaseke district.
“Kato was arrested yesterday in the morning when he had gone to a shrine for cleansing because of the murder he got involved in,” Kayima said.
“We have not arrested the owner of the shrine because he is the one who tipped us and that is healthy. So, it was good news from him.”
According to Kayima, Kato, 26, was married to Nabirawa and the couple had two children. The duo lived in Matugga in Wakiso district.
The couple had had a quarrel over land, days before Nabirawa was murdered.
“When [Nabirawa] felt that she was not safe at home, she went to spend a night out in a lodge known as Master Inn in Namasuba, along Entebbe road,” Kayima explained.
Kato will face murder charges.
“We also want to establish whether he [Kato] was alone or had other assailants with him.”
Nabirawa becomes the 20th woman to be killed in a spate of killings in the municipalities of Nansana and Entebbe.
