The constitutional Court has Tuesday annulled the election of Andrew Martial as the Member of parliament for Igara East.
The decision by judges Egoda Ntende, Richard Buteera and new deputy chief justice Owiny Odolo followed a petition by the former constituency’s legislator, Micheal Mawanda who challenged the 2016 election results.
Mawanda argued that the election that sent Martial to Parliament was marred with irregularities in the voting, tallying and announcing of results.
He cited arithmetic variations on the result declaration forms, creation of non gazetted polling stations, ballot stuffing, intimidation, defamation by agents of his opponent and bribery.
In the 2016 polls, Mawanda raised 15091 votes while Martial won the race with 15983.
