Rubaga South MP Kato Lubwama was Thursday arrested at Nateete along Nakawuka Road as police foiled an age limit consultation rally.
Kato Lubwama had invited Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanya for the rally in Rubaga. But Police arrested Lubwama.
There was heavy police presence in Nateete ahead of the rally.
Police banned age limit rallies and protests as hostility towards those supporting the largely unpopular bill intensified.
Last week, in a caucus of his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) MPs backed a bill by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi that seeks to delete the upper age limit in article 102b of the Constitution that bars anyone over 75 years from standing for president.
Born in 1944 and in power since 1986, Museveni will be ineligible for reelection in 2021.
Police hurled tear gas, fired live bullets at Lubwama’s electorate.
With the help of stick-wielding men, police dispersed the crowds.
Similar scenes were also reported in Kyengera where MP Muwanga Kivumbi (Butambala MP) was also arrested over an age limit rally.
Meanwhile, leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza sped off as police started foiling the Nateete rally.
