Traders Count Losses as Fire Guts Ntungamo Market

Traders who work from a Ntungamo market known as ‘Bangkok’ are counting losses after an early Monday morning fire destroyed merchandise.

Kiosks, restaurants and video halls in the Ntungamo Bangkok market were razed down in the 3am fire.

The market is located in Cell 8 of Western division in Ntungamo Municipality.

The other area of the market affected was the Matooke Market.

Traders’ association leader Alex Nkunda accused police of failing to respond fast to save people’s source of livelihood.

Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga told the people who lost their merchandise to keep the hope alive.

“It is very sad that our people here in Ntungamo have suffered a great loss; close to 40 businesswomen and men lost a lot of their property,” said MP Karuhanga.

“We’ve engaged our people not to lose hope, we are going to do all we can to make sure they get all the necessary support they need” said the MP

The youthful MP also tasked police to fast-track the probe into the fire.

“This could be a natural cause but I also want to ask police and other investigative arms of government to investigate this matter to establish the root cause of the fire,” he said.
