President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday evening met the Uganda Cranes team and officials from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) at State House, Entebbe.
The Uganda Cranes teams were led by skipper Dennis Onyango, while the officials from FUFA were led by FUFA President Moses Magogo.
President Museveni congratulated the team for beating Cape Verde last Saturday and qualifying for AFCON 2019.
Uganda Cranes will be playing in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019 tournament following a 1-0 home victory over Cape Verde in the 2019 AFCON Qualifiers game which was played at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole in Kampala on Saturday (17th November, 2018).
Cranes striker Patrick Kaddu put Uganda at the lead in the game with an impressive header 13 minutes to the end of the second half.
President Museveni promised more government support to sports including building and refurbishing of stadia in the near future.
He urged the Uganda Cranes team to ensure it wins its final game against Tanzania, even when they have already qualified.
The officials Gifted President Museveni with the new Uganda Cranes Jerseys FUFA and also presented him with highest Honour in Ugandan football ‘The FUFA Goal Award’.
