Rt Rev Stephen Kaziimba has been officially installed as the 9th Archbishop of Church of Uganda (COU).
Kaziimba was enthroned on Sunday at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe in an event that was attended by several dignitaries including; President Yoweri Museveni, his wife Janet, Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, Nabagereka of Buganda Kingdom Sylvia Nagginda, Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga, Prime Minister Ruhankana Rugunda, Amama Mbabazi, 11 Archbishops and 30 Bishops from across the world, 39 active Bishops under CoU and many others.
In his speech, the outgoing Archbishop, Stanley Ntagali said he was happy to retire at the age of 65. The day, he said, was his birthday.
Ntagali congratulated Rt Rev Stephen Kaziimba, and said he wished him luck and God’s guidance.
Ntagali handed over to the new Archbishop, the CoU constitution, the Canons, Vision 2020 and his handover his report. Rev Kaziimba was then presented to the congregation and renewed his vows.
Speaking at the event the Katirkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga said the kingdom welcomes Kaziimba’s enthronement with great joy.
“This is a very big responsibility, but we know that Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu is a priest of commitment,” Mayiga said.
Adding that: “The office of archbishop comes with tremendous authority and we pray that God will be with you as you exercise that authority.”
The President left the occasion prematurely but gifted the new Archbishop with a brand new car which was presented by the Speaker of Parliament.
Government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa who was the chairperson organizing committee told attendees that the President had contributed one-third of the money that was used to organize the event. The church had a budget of shs1.1billion.
