Woman Who Stole Offertory Ordered to Pay Shs250,000

Judith Nanangwe, 24, who was nabbed stealing offertory at Watoto Church Ntinda on March 1, 2020, has been ordered to pay shs 250,000 by court. Failure to do so, she will have to stay in jail for five months.

Nanangwe appeared before the Kampala City Hall Court where she confessed to having stolen offertory worth shs Shs 643,000.

She exchanged an offertory bag that contained money with a similar one she had brought in her purse only to be seen by a churchgoer who was seated close by. A search at Nanangwe’s home revealed that she had other church bags, indicating that she had been doing this for a long time.

Nanangwe, is a housewife and resident of Seeta, Mukono. She appeared in a court with her newborn baby. Grade one Magistrate Valerian Tuhimbise said came up with a light sentence considering that the woman has a young baby.

“Looking at the manner in which the crime was committed, I shall strike a balance between the best interest of the baby and that of the state,” he said.
