As the country marked the first day since the government announced a total lockdown, a number of expectant mothers stormed Kayunga police station from Ntenjeru Health Center 3 in Kayunga district asking police to take them to Kulagulamira Health Center 4 where they had been referred to give birth from.
One of the expectant mothers whose name was not identified moved a distance of about 2km before she could reach the police station, noting that she could not use a boda boda to Kulagulamira Health Center since they had stopped them from transporting passengers.
Faridah Kawanguzi, the police officer in charge of Kayunga town council police station called the district Health officer, Dr Ahmed Matovu, who immediately sent an ambulance to take the expectant mothers to the health care. The distress call by expectant mothers was not recorded in parts of Kayunga district only but also elsewhere in the country.
This comes after the president of Uganda issued more stringent measures on Monday, March 30, 2020, like halting private means of transport with the exception of cargo trucks only.
