With only a few hours to the end of the 14-days lockdown imposed by President Museveni, the Ministry of Health has suggested that the lockdown is extended for at least three weeks.
This comes at a time when there is a general sense of relief after going days without a significant surge in new cases as it has been previously. Uganda has registered only one new case in the past three or so days. The relief is expounded by the news that four patients recovered and were discharged. The Ministry said on Sunday that more patients are well and steady on the road to recovery and could be discharged this week.
Uganda currently has 50 active cases, 54 confirmed cases, and no death recorded yet.
According to the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, it is still too early to conclude based on these numbers. “Our strategy is to get all potential people infected including the truck drivers that cross in whom we are focusing on now. The next 3 weeks will determine the direction we take. Stay safe,” she wrote on Twitter.
The President will on Tuesday midday address the nation on the status of the lockdown, according to senior Presidential Press Secretary Don Wanyama.
On Monday (today) Cabinet is said to have met with the President to discuss whether to lift the lockdown or adopt the suggestion of Ministry of Health.
