Uganda´s leading and biggest paint company Plascon has donated 19,360kgs of soap worth UGX 50,000,000 to the task force fighting coronavirus in Uganda. The donation was part of a handover that took place today at the Parliament building, Nakasero.
Mr Santosh Gumte, the MD of Kansai Plascon Uganda Limited shared his companies admiration of H.E Yoweri Museveni the President of Uganda, the Ministry of Health, task force and fellow Ugandans at the lengths taken to overcome and stop the spread of the virus. Dr Ian Clarke was present and helped onlookers understand the importance of breaking the chain of infection by continuing the simple actions first stated by the MOH.
The soaps which are in 1kg bars will be distributed to the neediest in the community starting with the slums in Kampala. The simple action of washing ones hands with soap is still the best proactive measure to guard against the virus. Mr Tyron Immelmann, Marketing Manager of Plascon, stated that the business has been using SMS’s services and WhatsApp to engage with staff and customers during this period to raise awareness of the defensive actions that can be taken.
He also shared that Plascon is working on plans to assist the paint industry, customers and dealers to deal with the financial impact of the lockdown with the goal of returning to strong businesses in a vibrant paint and construction market. Plascon is widely accepted as the trusted quality product in Uganda and is available at over 400 dealers nationwide with 60% market share.
