Cabinet will sit next week to devise a conclusive decision on the re-opening of city arcades. The arcades have been closed for close to three months. President Museveni made the call to close them to stem the spread of coronavirus in March.
On Wednesday the Minister for Trade Amelia Kyambade received a report from the interim committee that was set up to design guidelines that will be followed by shopping malls once they are open.
Upon receiving the report, Amelia said a decision was going to be made on Monday.
Amelia stressed the need for the arcades to be opened. She expressed hope that the arcade people will follow the standard operating procedures as will be advised.
Among the guidelines that will be set includes; decongestion of shops. Only three people will be allowed to operate in a shop. Each arcade will be required to provide handwashing facilities at the entrances, et al.
