The East African Court of Justice has extended the hearing of the matter in which Ugandan Lawyer Hassan Kassim Male Mabirizi challenged the Age Limit amendments made within the Ugandan constitution in 2018.
In the hearing notice issued on Thursday, July 9, signed by the Court Registrar, the case hearing was changed from Monday, July 13 to Tuesday, July 14, 2020.
“You are hereby required to appear in this court via video conference and abide by the guidelines for video conference proceedings. Please note that if there is no appearance on your part, the court will proceed to hear the case and make necessary orders your absence notwithstanding,” reads part of the notice.
Following the outbreak of the novel Covid-19 pandemic, courts of law East Africa and the rest of the world have adopted teleconferencing court sessions in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.
Male Mabirizi petitioned the parliament’s decision of uplifting the Presidential term to the East African Court of Justice in 2019 after the Constitutional and Supreme Court of Uganda had upheld the amendments.
