Lukwago’s Former Deputy Kanyike Appointed Minister

President Museveni has appointed Ms Sarah Kanyike as the new State Minister for Disabilities and Elderly. Kanyike’s appointment comes days after she was replaced as deputy Lord Mayor by Doreen Nyanjura.

Kanyike’s new appointment was confirmed in communication to MPs on the Appointments Committee on Thursday, July 23.

“Notice is hereby given that the appointments committee is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at 10am in the basement floor of Parliament house to interact with Ms Sarah Kanyike, the presidential nominee of Minister of State for Disability and Elderly,” the circular reads.

President Museveni had in May nominated Ms Kanyike as director for gender, community service and production in the new changes at KCCA that also saw Ms Dorothy Kisaka nominated as new KCCA Executive Director, replacing Engineer Andrew Kitaka who had acted since December 2018.

Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago’s back and forth pleas not to take up the position did not yield much. Kanyike finally handed over office to Doreen Nyanjura in mid-June.

Lukwago had also argued that Kanyike’s previous position was far more superior than one which Museveni had initially appointed her to.
