UPDF Corporal Convicted of Assaulting Mityana District Chairman

The UPDF 1st Division Court Martial has convicted Lance Corporal Simon Angulia who led the patrol team that assaulted Mityana District Chairperson  Joseph Luzige and caused bodily harm.

The court that was chaired by Col Sam Mugyenyi acquitted two Local Defence Unit (LDU) Personnel who participated in the assault.

Angulia was sentenced to four months in jail after he was found guilty of failure to observe restraint as required by the Standing Operating Procedures of the army.

Court reduced their charge from assault causing bodily harm to common assault after the complainant was found to have falsely accused the officers of starting the scuffle.

The suspects  Okello Isaac,  Odeke Solomon and Lance Corporal Angulia Simon Peter  were filmed assaulted the LCV Chairman on 7th July 2020 and were consequently arrested

The two LDUs were acquitted after cross examination of four witnesses, including the complainant. The complainant failed to show any o proof that he had been injured as he claimed

Dr. Lubogo, a senior medical officer in Mityana, denied having treated the District Chairperson after the scuffle as had been recorded in the charge sheet and statements.

Eye witnesses also said that it was the District Chairman who caused the scuffle.
