Why Security Officers Raided NUP Headquarters – Police Speaks Out

Police has come out to explain the Wednesday morning raid at the headquarters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Kamwokya.

This website earlier today broke the news of the joint Police and uPDF siege at the offices of the Bobi Wine led Political Party where they executed a search and seized a number of materials.

According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the security forces were searching for uniforms and clothings that were gazetted for armed forces but are being used by civilians.

He said today’s raid if the first of many that will target all locations that are illegally supplying and using uniforms whose ownership and designs was gazetted and preserve of the armed forces.

Over time, the NUP and their People Power Pressure group have been using the red beret as one of the items they identify with although berets were gazetted for military men.

The Tower Post understands that during the raid at the NUP offices, security forces confiscated items among which were overalls, berets and others.

During the raid that lasted over 3 hours, the CCTV System at the party offices was reportedly broken by the forces during the search.

Sources within the NUP told this website that Party Principal Bobi Wine was scheduled to distribute the berets and red t-shirts to youth leaders with in the Kampala area.
