How a Red Beret Landed NUP’s Lewis Rubongoya in Trouble at NBS

National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya was last night arrested by a joint Secretary tac team as he left Naguru based NBS TV studios.

Rubongoya who is a vocal critic of President Museveni and his National Resistance Movement (NRM) party was coming out of the television’s weekly Political talk show, NBS Frontline.

According to witnesses who were at NBS, Rubongoya was ordered to open up his car for the security officers to execute a search, an order he turned down seeing as they had no search warrant.

His car was later on towed to Kira Road Police station where he was momentarily detained.

Rubongoya was released on Police bond after the intervention of Democratic Party (DP) President General Nobert Mao who stood surety for him.

He was charged with possession of a military patented design, the red beret.

“It should not surprise anybody; this is just intimidation. The beret we put on is not for military, this is just politics,“ Rubongoya said after his release.
