National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi a.k.a Bobi Wine has promised to pay security officers starting with Shs. One one million and above.
“When I am President, the lowest paid officer from Police, UPDF and Prisons will earn one million shillings,” he said.
Kyagulanyi said this while addressing journalists at Kyadondo Cricket Oval minutes after his nomination.
“When I am elected, our army men will not be forced to do the work of Police. They had an opportunity to join the Police but they turned it down and chose to join the UPDF, there is no reason why we should force them to do Police work.”
Over the years, the military has been brought out to the streets to control demonstrations by civilians and to execute arrest of civilians, a job designated for the Police.
Bobi Wine says this won’t happen during his leadership.
He cautioned President Museveni and the Electoral Commission boss Justice Mugyenyi Byabakama not to mess with the elections and the people of Uganda, saying if they do so, the cost to pay will be high.
He called upon Ugandans both in Uganda and in the diaspora to come together and fight to oust Museveni so that they can regain their freedom and dignity.
“This is not just an election; it’s a mission to freedom. We are removing a dictator,” he said.
“We have an avenue of peaceful change and I know the world is watching us. We are going to be free,” he added.
