A police officer attached to Jinja Road Police Station was Sunday knocked dead by a boda boda rider who he was trying to stop for riding past curfew time.
Constable Jacob Opobo Okwera, No. 50415 was reportedly intentionally knocked down at around 11:00PM while he tried to stop a boda rider Reg. No. UEG 347B.
The boda rider who according to Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire was carrying two passengers knocked down the officer leaving him with serious injuries.
He was rushed to Naguru China Hospital where he died.
“The body of the deceased officer has been taken to KCCA mortuary for postmortem check and plans to give him a dignified sendoff are already underway,” Owoyesigire said.
He identified the boda rider as John Byamukama who he said is already in Police custody and has been charged with murder.
