State Minister for Vice Presidency Dr Baltazar Kasirivu-Atwookihas Wednesday morning survived an assassination after he was ambushed by gunmen a few kilometers from his home.
Kasirivu who was driving from a radio show at Emambya FM in Kakumiro town, Kakumiro District was attacked at Kakora Village, Nyalweyo Town Council in Kakumiro District and took fire from his attackers.
According to local publisher Daily Monitor who spoke to the minister, eight bullets pierced through his vehicle but he was able to survive and go unharmed together with his driver.
“They almost finished our lives. As we were approaching my home at a swampy place, unknown people who were armed with guns opened fire on us,” he reportedly said.
“As gunfire raged, I told the driver to speed off and that is how we escaped unhurt. I don’t know who was behind this attack but I have informed the police. It was a miracle for me to survive,” he said.
Dr. Kasirivu who is also the Bugangaizi Member of Parliament is still in the race seeking to extend his leadership for another term.
He said that he suspects the attack to be politically motivated ahead of Thursday elections.
