NUP’s Muhammad Segirinya Finally Granted Bail

Buganda Road Court Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu has released Kawempe South MP elect Muhammad Segirinya on bail, The Tower Post reports.

Segirinya who was charged with inciting violence has been on remand in Kitalya Prison, Wakiso for close to a month.

He was arrested while staging a protest against what he called illegal arrest and kidnap of National Unity Platform – NUP supporters across the country.

The bail application was made by Segirinya’s lawyers led by Busiro County East legislator Medard Segona.

Kamasanyu released Segirinya on a cash bail of Shs. 3 million while his sureties were bonded at Shs 50million and they were also ordered to deposit their National IDs to court.

Meanwhile, NUP on Tuesday revealed that a total of 222 of their supporters had been released from detention.

Party leaders confirmed that they had documented up to about 158 names of supporters who have been dumped in different places while others have been granted bail at different courts in a period spanning one month.
