After 15 months of no active basketball in Uganda, last weekend the National Basketball League tipped off at KIU Court in Kasanga and Uganda Christian University, Mukono with no fans but the games were live on the FUBA TV.
Newly promoted Nam Blazers thumped the defending Champions City Oilers, 71-66 in the league opener at KIU Court in Kasanga.
The game which was full of tension, saw City Oilers take the first quarter 17-6.
The second quarter was different because Nam Blazers played good defense and offense and they took the lead, half time ended 29-24 in favor of Nam Blazers.
The third quarter wasn’t any different though City Oilers cut the lead by 2 points and it ended 52-50.
Nam Blazers didn’t off the momentum in the fourth quarter as the game ended 71-66.
Paul ‘Mcgver’ Odongo, the captain of Namuwongo Blazers was the top Scorer with 22 points while Chris Omanye and Jukko ‘Najja’ Daniel added 11 points each.
The City Oilers captain, Jimmy Abraham Enabu was their top scorer with 19pts while James Okello added 10 points.
In the ladies’ category, KCCA Leopards outplayed the defending Champions, JKL Lady Dolphins, 58-55.
KCCA Leopards’ Claire Lamunu who played her first NBL game since 2014 when she won the NBL MVP and league, had 13pts while Leticia Awor was the top scorer with 16pts.
