Killed Kasese People Deserved Death – Gen Elweru

UPDF Commander of Land Forces Lt Gen Peter Elweru has praised himself for returning peace to Rwenzori region following his 2016 operation that left hundreds dead.

Gen Elweru was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Parliamentary swearing in ceremony on Tuesday May 18th after he took oath as one of the UPDF representatives in the 11th parliament.

In November 2016, in his capacity as 2nd Division commander, Elwelu commanded the UPDF troops that overran the palace of Rwenzururu King Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere where least 153 people, including children were killed.

“The ICC set me free, what are you talking about. Those were criminals and they deserved death. Kasese is peaceful because of my judgement,” Gen Elweru responded when he was asked about his role in the palace attack.

Elweru who now holds the second highest rank in the Ugandan army is one of the 10 members of parliament representing the UPDF in the eleven parliament.

“We are bringing our guns; not the guns that make noise in the bush but the guns that everybody uses here in parliament.
