More details continue to emerge in the Tuesday morning attempted assassination of former Chief of Defence Forces Gen Edward Katumba Wamala.
Gen Katumba’s car was attacked by assailants travelling on motorcycles as he left his home headed for the vigil of his mother-in-law.
The Tower Post understands that the car was shot 56 times as the assassins tried to complete their job.
In the shooting, his daughter Brenda Wamala Nantongo and his driver Haruna Kayondo were killed on spot.
Katumba who survived the shooting sustained two bullet wounds on both shoulders and was rushed to Medipal International Hospital where he is still undergoing medical treatment.
Museveni Speaks Out
In a statement released on Tuesday evening, President Yoweri Tibuhabura Museveni faulted Gen Katumba’s bodyguard for shooting in the air and not shooting to kill the terrorists.
“The bodyguard should not have shot in the air. He should have shot to kill. We could be having a dead terrorist instead of scaring away the terrorists. His shooting saved Gen. Katumba by scaring the criminals away. However, killing one or more of the terrorists would have done the same and more,” Museveni statement read in part.
He promised to hunt down the assailants saying once caught, they would regret it.
