Two Charged with Murder of Gen Katumba’s Daughter, Driver

Police has charged two men with the murder of Brenda Wamala Nantongo and Haruna Kayondo, the daughter and driver of Works and Transport Minister Gen Edward Katumba Wamala.

The two are believed to have taken part in the attempted murder of former Chief Defence Forces Gen Wamala on Tuesday June 1st 2021.

In the attempted assassination, assailants moving on motorcycles pelted Gen Wamala’s car with bullets which left him nursing injuries and killed his daughter and driver with whom he was travelling.

The suspects who have been charged include Ismael Hussien Serubula, 38, and Yusuf Siraje Nyanzi, 46.

Sserubula, better known as Imamu Muto is a boda boda rider and resident of Bulenga in Wakiso while Nyanzi is a herbalist and resident of Kyanja, Nakawa, Kampala.

Both Nyanzi and Serubula were charged with two counts of murder (murders of Brenda Nantongo, Sgt Haruna Kayondo) and one account of attempted murder (the attempted murder of Gen Katumba Wamala) according to the charge sheet seen by this website.
