The Soroti City Division Mayors have snubbed the distribution exercise of hand hoes slated to start today Friday.

The Mayors Paul Omer of Soroti City East Division and Peter Patrick Emaru of Soroti City West Division say that they cannot be part of the already messed Process.

The mayors claim that the distribution process to be launched by the Soroti Resident City Commissioner Robert Adiama Ekaju in the Wards of Aloet in Soroti City East, Arapai in Soroti City west is a waste of time.

The Mayor’s claim that they can’t join the team yet over 150 boxes of hand hoes estimated at over 30,000,000/= Uganda shillings has been stolen by a section of staff at Soroti City Council.

Paul Omer told the media at Soroti City headquarters that unless the suspected officials who are accused of stealing the hoes are apprehended and charged for their actions he cannot accept to go to distribute the hoes.

“The Former Town Clerk Mr. Otimong Moses told people while appearing on Radio that each person was going to receive 2 hand hoes but with the theft at the city I don’t think people will receive the expected number. Am not ready to answer the question,”said Omer.

He also said that the Soroti City Authorities need to come out clearly to penalize the affected staff.

It must be noted that Soroti City on the 10th June recorded a loss of 101 boxes of hand hoes and the implicated staff were arrested, arraigned in Court before they were granted court bail.

On 13th July the authorities recorded another loss of 49 boxes which Omer said was a deliberate move by the officials to deny the peasants their rights.

Peter Patrick Emaru, the Soroti City West mayor also vowed never to join the team unless they clear the mess at the authority.

He blamed the Soroti City mayor Joshua Edogu and New Town Clerk Ambrose Ocen for not taking serious actions against the staff at the finance department.

By press time both the Soroti City mayor Joshua Edogu, Town Clerk Ambrose Ocen and the City Executive were still stuck in the meeting as the two division mayors snubbed the meeting and planned distribution.
