Police Criminal Investigations Directorate – CID has issued summons for public interest litigation lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde over alleged offensive communication.
Ssemakadde who is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Legal Brains Trust is being accused of having offended Justice Musa Sekaana of the High Court Civil Division.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is conducting inquiries into alleged offensive communication to the prejudice of Hon. Justice Ssekaana Musa,” the summon reads.
“You are required to report to CID headquarters on 28/02/2022 at 1000hrs and you will particularly report to the officer in charge of cyber crime D/ASP Henry Kayiza who will guide you on what is required,” the letter further reads.
Ssemakadde who often refers to himself as the “legal rebel” is yet to confirm whether or not he will honour the Police summons.
“Be calm: DIMWITS ARE EVERYWHERE,” Ssemakadde said in response to the news of his summons via his Twitter page.
He accompanied the statement with a February 16th letter to the Inspector General of Government – IGG in which fellow lawyer Male Mabirizi was requesting the Inspectorate to provide him with information about details of Justice Ssekaana’s wealth.
“I am aware that it is a legal requirement that a person employed in public service like Ssekaana Musa is required to disclose their wealth to you,” Mabirizi’s letter reads in part.
“….. I hereby proceed under Article 41 of the Uganda 1995 constitution and section 5 of the Access to Information Act, 2005 to request for certified copies.
“I need the details to compare with the information already in my possession regarding the illicit accumulation of wealth by Judge Sekaana Musa within and outside Uganda since 2018 when he took the office of a judge in the high court of Uganda,” the letter further reads.
In the letter, Mabirizi proceeds to allege that his sources confirm that “this wealth is as a result of illicit, corrupt and fraudulent administration of justice.”
Meanwhile, Mabirizi has been picked up by police and is currently under arrest at Jinja Road Police station.
