First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has dropped her intentions to run for speakership.
Kadaga who lost to departed speaker Jacob Oulanyah in May 2021 had showed interest to re-run for the position she held for 10 years before it was taken.
She was slated to declare her candidature to the National Resistance Movement – NRM Electoral Commission today but after consultations with a number of CEC members, she decided to drop out.
She said she will continue serving as First Deputy Prime Minister in charge of East African Affairs to continue with her duties that all aim at achieving East African Integration.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Anita Among is among the people that have shown interest to take the seat.
Others include Theodore Ssekikuubo the Lwemiyaga County Legislator, Budama Central MP Jacob Oboth Oboth who is currently the State Minister for Defence, Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi, Dokolo South MP Felix Okot Ogong, Tororo Woman MP Sarah Opendi among others.
