The Rotary Club of Bukoto emerged as the overall winner of the 2022 Five Aside Football Tournament, securing a memorable victory that earned the club the coveted championship title and a cash prize of UGX 5 million.

The triumph came during the leadership of Club President Alfred Okoya and District Governor Mike Ssebalu, whose tenure inspired renewed energy, teamwork and determination both on and off the field. With this achievement, the Rotary Club of Bukoto entered the next edition of the tournament as the defending champions.

Speaking after the victory, District Governor Mike Ssebalu congratulated the players for their outstanding performance, describing the win as the result of discipline, determination and purposeful play. He commended the team for fighting hard throughout the tournament and reminded Rotarians that while sports foster fellowship and healthy competition, Rotary’s ultimate mission remains service above self.

Club President Alfred Okoya revealed that the UGX 5 million prize money would be invested directly into the club’s ongoing community service projects. He noted that upon assuming office, he was fully aware of the responsibility to complete impactful initiatives that improve the lives of communities.

Among the club’s flagship projects are the renovation of classroom blocks, tree planting campaigns, and the provision of clean and safe water. The Rotary Club of Bukoto has also partnered with a church in Luwero to plant trees as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote environmental sustainability.

Rotarian Moses praised the club’s leadership for assembling a strong and committed football team that represented Bukoto with pride. He acknowledged that defending the title in the following tournament would be an even greater challenge, as other Rotary clubs would undoubtedly strengthen their squads. He also paid tribute to teammates Ronnie, Rukundo, and Isaac for their exceptional commitment and determination throughout the competition.

The victory was more than a sporting achievement, it reflected the unity, leadership, and service oriented spirit that define the Rotary Club of Bukoto. As champions, the club not only celebrated success on the pitch but also reaffirmed its commitment to transforming communities through meaningful service.
