President Salva Kiir has issued a decree firing the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Public Service, Professor Julia Aker Duany.
Professor Julia, who formerly served as vice chancellor for Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology, was appointed to the position of undersecretary in April 2021.
The presidential decree read on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Wednesday night did not give reasons for the removal of the public service ministry’s undersecretary.
In a separate decree, Kiir appointed Fillister Baya as the new undersecretary in the Ministry of Public Service after removing her from her position as the chairperson of the South Sudan Civil Service Commission.
The South Sudanese leader then appointed Professor Julia Aker Duany as the new chairperson of the South Sudan Civil Service Commission.
The president cited powers bestowed upon him by the country’s transitional constitution and the 2018 peace agreement to make the changes.
