Former Lakes State governor Maj. Gen Matur Chut has died at the age of 70, The Tower Post has learnt.
Chut, according to family members died at a hospital in Juba where he has been battling a long illness related to high blood pressure, diabetes, kindney and heart problems.
The freedom fighter and former SPLA commander served as care taker governor of Lakes State from 2013 after president Salva Kiir removed the democratically-elected governor Chol Tong Mayay.
Chut was the appointed the governor now defunct Western Lakes State in 2017.
He would later be relieved of his duties by presidential decree in 2019.
Born in 1954, Maj Gen Chut is survived by several sons and daughters.
