South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday night sacked the deputy governors of Upper Nile and Jonglei states and announced replacements.
In a decree aired on the state broadcaster, South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation (SSBC), Kiir dismissed Upper Nile State Deputy Governor Ayong Awer Lual, and Jonglei State Deputy Governor Jacob Akec Dengdit. The due was replaced with Deng Jok Angok and Atong Kuol Manyang in Upper Nile and Jonglei states respectively.
Kiir did not give reasons for the changes but quoted article 106 (A) of the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan 2011.
The officials relieved and appointed are all from the docket of the Sudan People`s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity.
Last Wednesday night, President Kiir announced a significant reshuffle of SPLM Party-nominated officials in the Jonglei State including cabinet ministers, members of the independent commissions, and state parliamentarians.
Atong Kuol Manyang, who has now been appointed deputy governor, was relieved as the state’s Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Tourism last week. She is the daughter of veteran SPLA Commander Gen. Kuol Manyang Juk.
