The police in Lakes State’s Yirol West County have confirmed that they are holding a Ugandan health worker accused of injecting a 12-year-old girl on Monday who later died.
The police spokesperson in Lakes State, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the suspect was arrested on Monday and is being detained at Yirol West County Police Station.
“We received information on Monday that there was an incident where a Ugandan health worker working in a private clinic in Yirol West County injected a 12-year-old girl who later died during treatment,” he said. “The suspected Ugandan doctor has now been arrested and the investigation into the cause of the death of the girl is ongoing. After the child died, the police took legal measures by arresting the Ugandan man.”
Maj. Mabor added: “The dead body was taken to hospital for postmortem and we are expecting the medical results from Yirol West Civil Hospital.”
He however reported that the Easter festivities were peaceful across the state.
“The death of the girls is one of the few cases that was registered during the Easter holidays and we are still waiting to if there are other issues that were not reported then they will be communicated later,” the police mouthpiece said.
Attempts to contact administrators at the Yirol West Civil Hospital for comment on the postmortem were unsuccessful.
