The Confederation of African Football – CAF has given a green light for the Uganda Cranes to host international matches at the Mandela National Stadium Namboole.
This was revealed by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations – FUFA in a short statement released via their Social Media channels.
“CAF has granted FUFA permission to host International Matches at Mandela National Stadium (Namboole),” the statement reads in part.
“This therefore implies that Uganda Cranes will host the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier matches against Botswana and Algeria in June at Namboole,” the Federation further wrote.
The clearance follows two test games that had been requested by CAF to ascertain whether the stadium was actually ready for use.
The two test games were held on May 1st pitting Vipers SC against Bul FC and KCCA FC against SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League.
These test matches were meant to provide CAF with insight into the progress of the ongoing renovation works, crucial for potential permission to host International games and it’s based on these insights that the decision was made.
Namboole has been out of commission since 2020 due to substandard conditions and the return of Uganda Cranes to the facility will be a big morale booster for the team.
