Digital marketing specialist and General Manager at Hedge Marketing John Birungi Babirukamu has died.
Babirukamu died on Friday morning in Kamwokya, in the capital Kampala.
Reports indicate that the seasoned adman committed suicide by jumping off Tagore apartments building.
“I apologize for being an inconvenience in death as I was in life,” he wrote on his family WhatsApp group before falling to his death.
“I have given it my all and now I find myself with only emptiness,” he said, adding, “I do sincerely love you all, and hope you find it in your hearts to forgive me.”
“Kiss my nieces and nephews for me. They are the last joy that I held onto.”
News of Babirukamu’s suicide has since cast a cloud of grief amongst Ugandans especially those in the marketing and advertising practice.
His death also serves as a sobering reminder of the invisible battles that so many face each day. In a world that often demands perfection, his tragic end sheds light on the importance of reaching out, of seeking help in moments of darkness, and of holding onto hope in the face of despair.
Experience
Prior to Joining Hedge as the General Manager, John served at QG group as Digital Director where he managed a number of brands including NTV, Uganda Breweries Limited, Equity Bank, BRAC, Sheraton Kampala among others.
He was mostly remembered for his work when he took on a barely existing digital marketing unit at NBS and transformed it into Uganda’s most engaging online presence in just three years.
