Key Suspect in 2021 Kampala Bombing Shot Dead

Yasin Ddamulira aka Musubuzi, who has been on the wanted list by Uganda over the 2021 bombing in Kampala has been shot dead by security agencies in Mityana district.

According to Col Deo Akiiki the deputy Defence Public Information Officer (DPIO), Ddamulira was on Tuesday detected communicating in Mityana.

“After the 2021 bombing Musa Kabanda aka Akman was arrested, it was later established that he was among the top planners, he revealed that he was working closely with Ddamulira Yasin aka Musubuzi, Abas Sekimpi now on remand) and Nsubuga Sulaiman arrested 27 Apr, 2024,” Col Akiiki said.

CMI tracked and identified Ddamulira’s location. This prompted CMI, Mityana police and Counter-Terrorist (CT) to encircle his hideout.

“On the same night, Counter Terrorism forces and police in attempt to arrest Ddamulira Yasin, resulted in fire exchange, he was finally Put Out of Action and 01 SMG recovered,” Col Akiiki said.

Ddamulira was first identified when he was mentioned by a suspect, Musa Kabanda alias Akman, who stated that he was part of the planning meeting for the Kampala bombings alongside Abas Sekimpi and Sulaiman Nsubuga.

Kabanda is currently on remand alongside Sekimpi while Nsubuga was arrested on April 27, 2024 and he is being interrogated by security forces.

Bombs at Kampala Central Police Station (CPS), Digida Pork Joint in Komamboga and Parliament Avenue near Jubilee Building left five civilians including one policeman dead.

Although three suicide bombers died in the terror acts, security forces were able to arrest many of their colleagues and accomplices.

The 2021 bombs were the reason Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) launched armed assault on Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). However, ADF terrorists have been very active in Uganda despite UPDF’s presence in DRC which is their hideout to the extent of killing more than 70 people in 2023.

Security forces barely three weeks ago found bombs abandoned in Komamboga rented house.

UPDF Spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, said 14 ADF terrorists had sneaked into the country and it suspected Ddamulira who has now been killed was among them. Brig Gen Kulayigye urged Ugandans to be alert since the ADF terrorist can strike at any time.
