Wakiso Giants has appointed former Uganda Cranes stars Steven Bengo and Tonny Mawejje to lead the club’s technical team.
Bengo takes on the role of head coach, with Mawejje serving as his assistant.
This decision brings an end to John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda’s tenure as head coach.
Luyinda, who joined the Purple Sharks in June 2022, made a big impact in his early months at the club but key players depatures and reported financial hardships hindered the club’s progress.
Bengo, who holds a CAF B coaching license, is no stranger to Wakiso Giants. His return to the club is seen as a homecoming, given his previous role as a Trainer.
His coaching experience includes stints with Bushenyi Veterans and Wembley.
Mawejje is set to begin his second coaching role following his departure from the FUFA Women Super League side, Kampala Queens.
Just like Bengo, Mawejje’s appointment as assistant coach, is expected to bring fresh perspectives and ideas at the club.
The Purple Sharks finished 11th with 32 points last season, seven points above the drop.
