At least one person has been confirmed killed on Tuesday in Akucieng village in Tonj South County, during deadly cattle raid by suspected armed youth Cueibet County of neighboring Lakes State.
William Wol Mayom Bol, the Minister of Information and Communication Services for Warrap State, said in a statement on Wednesday that one civilian was killed and a soldier wounded.
“On the 9 July, 2024 at 2:00 PM, the suspected armed youth from Cueibet County of Lakes State attacked Akucieng village of Tonj South County, Warrap State. In the incident, one innocent civilian was killed, one soldier wounded and 80 herds of cattle were raided by the attackers,” said Mayom.
Mayom condemned the persistent and barbaric attacks by the armed youth of Cueibet County on the innocent civilians of Manyang Ngok Payam of Tonj South County.
“However, many attempts were made by the Tonj South security apparatus and the cattle owners to recover the raided cattle but all attempts exerted were in vain,” said Mayom.
He urged the government of Lakes State to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the raided cattle and return them to their rightful owners.
Armed youth from the two neighboring States have been engaged in tit-for –tat cattle raids over the years which have caused several deaths and destruction.
