Kitara FC has confirmed that they will host their 2024/25 CAF Confederations Cup matches at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
Uganda has two stadiums approved to host CAF Interclub Competitions—Namboole and Kitende—and Kitara has selected the former.
In an interview with the club media, Kitara president Deo Kasozi said, “We are going to use Mandela National Stadium, Namboole to host our CAF Confederations Cup matches which start next month. We have already agreed with the parties concerned and everything is in place for us to use the newly refurbished facility.”
Kitara will face a yet-to-be-confirmed Libyan team in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The identity of the Libyan side will be determined at the conclusion of their league.
Kitara will host the first leg at Namboole between August 16-18 before traveling to Libya for the return leg on August 23-25, 2024.
This marks Kitara’s debut on the continental stage, a milestone earned by winning the Uganda Cup after defeating NEC FC.
Kasozi added, “The upcoming FUFA Super 8 competition will be essential in our preparations for continental football and we hope to give it our best.”
Last season, the Royals used Masindi Stadium in the neighboring district of Masindi as their home ground.
However, they will now travel over 200 kilometers to Namboole, one of the two stadiums approved to host CAF interclub competitions in Uganda.
Kitara’s first game at Namboole will be on August 3, against KCCA FC in the FUFA Super 8.
