South Sudan: CSE Examination Results on Hold Due to Cash Crunch

The release of the Certificate of Secondary Education results is being delayed due to shortage of funding to the National Examination Council (NEC).

Simon Nyok Deng, the Secretary General for NEC on Wednesday told journalists that they are in need of 740 million South Sudan Pounds to mark and vet the 2023 CSE exams.

“Now that the 2023 CSE examination results have not been released for close to 8 months, I still appeal to the new minister of finance, MPs of the education committee to urgently consider the fate of these candidates,” said Nyok during press conference held in Juba.

Nyok revealed that some of the 45,666 students who sat for the 2023 CSE examination have already missed scholarships and tertiary education opportunities.

Nyok also revealed that the National Examinations Council has not paid examination invigilators for both the 2023 CSE and CPE examinations.

“I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the general public, particularly to the 2003 candidates, parents, schools and all the other stakeholders for the delay in the release of the 2023 CSE examinations results due to circumstance beyond NEC’s control,” said Nyok.

He asked all the 2023 candidates, parents, stakeholders and the nation at large to be patient, as they engage with the national ministry of finance and planning to secure funding.

The 2023 CSE was conducted in December 2023 with results expected to have been released by March 2024.
